Toybox Riot Games is a new company committed to making education enjoyable for young children with visual impairements. Our products enable children to enter a whole new world of learning with a range of friendly, colourful characters designed to enhance their education. Our computer audio games teach not only core academic skills such as english, maths and languages, but introduce your child to technology through the computer. Computing skills are becoming more and more important in our day-to-day lives and we give you the opportunity to give your child a head start in today's ever advancing world of technology. Our books encourage children to read and to use their growing minds creatively as we strongly believe that imagination and creativity are vital to a childs, and indeed an adults, happiness.
After researching thoroughly into the market for children's books and games, we discovered that the vast majority of products are aimed only at sighted children.
The market for visually impaired early years education is sadly a very small one which leaves you, the parents or carer of children who are blind or partially sighted, with very little choice.
Why should children with visual impairements be excluded from an enjoyable education? That's why Toybox Riot Games is dedicating it's range of books and games to these children only.
We also take into account the needs of the adult by ensuring that our products are affordable and easy-to-use and by providing after-sales support to all customers.
Toybox Riot Games is headed by me - Gemma Hadfield. I'm in charge of everything that goes on in the company as I'm the sole owner and therefore responsible for game design, graphic design, story writing, customer support and cleaning! I don't do it all alone though. My boyfriend; Philip is my sound designer and everything you hear on this site or in the games/books is down to him. He also makes games for the blind and software too, so why not check out his website? http://www.pbsoundscape.net Evidently I myself am not blind, but Philip is and it was he who inspired me to start making educational games and books for young visually impaired children.
All of the games made by Toybox Riot Games are primarily aimed at young children between the ages of 4 and 10 years old. Some games will be focused on younger children and others may be a little more advanced to match the progression of the child. We are also producing a series of audio games designed to "grow" with the child. These games will be available in packs comprising of several CD-ROMS (or several files if you choose to purchase an online download), and will begin at the Foundation Level (4 years old) and progress over each year up until the Advanced Level (10 years old). This type of learning is very effective as the child is familiar with the settings and layout of the games, for example they will recognise their favourite characters and recognise key sound effects. Learning becomes seamless and there are fewer big jumps that may discourage children if they find activities too difficult.
